Atkins Diet
If you are struggling with your weight, you have likely seen weight loss products on the market that are designed for the Atkins Diet Plan. You may be wondering what this is all about. The Atkins Diet Plan is a weight loss plan that involves removing most of the carbohydrates from your diet. Instead of focusing on a crash diet, you will make lifelong changes that promote a healthy weight.
The Atkins Diet menu plan has four phases. The first phase, Induction, is the most restrictive. While in Induction, dieters cannot have more than 20 grams of carbohydrates a day, and 12 to 15 of those must come from vegetables. Many lose between five to ten pounds a week. Induction generally lasts for two weeks.
The second phase of the Atkins Diet menu plan is the Ongoing Weight Loss phase. During this time, the dieter increases the intake of carbohydrates by two grams each week. This phase lasts until the dieter has lost all but ten pounds of the desired weight.
Once the dieter is within ten pounds of the desired weight, carbohydrate intake is increased by ten grams of carbs a week in the Pre-Maintenance phase. The dieter will also pay close attention to any weight changes. The goal is to find the amount of carbs that the dieter's body can tolerate without packing on the pounds.
The final phase of the Atkins Diet Plan is the Lifetime Maintenance phase. Once the dieter has found the right amount of carbohydrates that his body can handle, this amount is maintained for life. If weight gain happens, the dieter simply goes back to an earlier phase to get the weight back in control.
